Equivalent round duct size for a rectangular duct can be expressed as
deq = 1.3 (a b)0.625 / (a +b)0.25 (1)
where
deq = equivalent diameter
a = length of duct side (inches)
b = length of other duct side (inches)
Velocity in duct can be expressed as
v = q / A = 144 q / a b (2)
where
v = air velocity (ft/min)
q = air flow (ft3/min)
A = area of duct (square feet)
