Air intakes and outlets in ventilation systems - rules of thumb

Intakes

Intakes should be at least 0.15 m above terrain. In areas with traffic at least 5 m above terrain
Distance to firewalls and surrounding buildings according local rules
Short cut with outlet air must be avoided
Wind must have a limited influence on the pressure conditions in the system
The air speed in the intake should in general not increase 2.5 m/s

Outlets

Outlets should go direct out
Short cut with intake, window openings and residence areas must be avoided
Distance to firewalls and surrounding buildings according local rules
Wind must have a limited influence on the pressure conditions in the system
The air speed depends is in general between 3 - 15 m/s
